JAMMU, Nov 15: To commemorate the supreme sacrifices of Imam Hussain the grand son of Prophet Mohammed and his 72 associates an impressive Tazia and Alam procession was taken out by Muslims belonging to Shia Sect from Imam Bargah Sofi Shah Pir Mitha here this afternoon on the occasion of Ashoora coinciding with 10th Muharram.
Thousands of members of Shia community including a sizable number of youth wailing and beating their chests participated in the procession. They were also reciting Navha and Mercia in praise of Imam Hussain who attained supreme sacrifice for the righteousness and upliftment of truth.
The procession passed through Lakhdata Bazar, Rajinder Bazar, Ghaas Mandi Chowk, Wazarat Road and culminated at Karbala complex. It was organized by Anjuman-e-Imamia Jammu. The mourners paid tributes to martyrs of Karbala where Imam Hussain attained martyrdom with his 72 companions for the cause of humanity and Islam.
Maulana Zaffer Mehdi while addressing the gathering of mourners prior to taking out of procession threw light on battle of Karbala and martyrdom of Imam –e-Hussain and his associates during 8th century.
He said martyrdom of Imam Hussain and his associates was the turning point in Islam who purely sacrificed their lives for Islam.
On the occasion a blood donation camp was also organized by All Ladakh Muslim Students Association Jammu in collaboration with Shia Federation in which hundreds of mourners donated blood for the cause of humanity.
Showing the spirit of their traditional brotherhood and communal amity people from all communities participated in the procession. Representatives of Muslim Federation, BJP, Jammu People’s Peace Forum etc joined the procession. The Anjuman-e-Haidery New Plots, Anjuman-e-Husainy Bathindi, Shia Federation and All Lakadh Muslim Students Federation coordinated with Anjuman-e-Imamia in organizing the procession.
The administration had made all arrangements for the procession enroute. Besides a big pose of police, the employees of Medical and Health Department along with ambulances and first aid were also accompanying the procession.
Ashoora processions were taken in Poonch from Takaia Sharief which passed through main market and culminated at Imambara. A large number of Shaia mourners drawn from different parts of Poonch participated in it.
In Mendhar various processions of Ashoora were taken out by members of Shia community. One procession was taken from Gursai Imambara which was led by Moulana Mukhtar Hussian Shah.
At Mendhar town thousands of members of Shia community assembled at Mukadas Academy under the leadership of Syed Munir Hussain Shah. Later a procession was taken out which passed via highway and culminated at Sanagla Chowk Imambara. It was led by Aleh Mohammed Alzadi.
Meanwhile the 10 day Majalis-e- Aza was organized under the banner of All Ladakh Muslim Students Association Jammu in which two eminent speakers Moulana Syed Gulzar Raza Jaffri and Sheikh Nasir Ali Nasri addressed the Majalis.
