SRINAGAR, Aug 10: Police today arrested a teacher for ruthlessly beating a minor student in Handwara area of Kupwara district.
The student, Sabhat Sofi, son of Jan Mohammad Sofi, of Braripora in Handwara, was allegedly beaten to pulp by his teacher identified as Tauseef Ahmad at Kashmir International Public School Handwara. The victim is a class 2nd student.
Sabhat told Excelsior that during games class, he and another student had a scuffle after the latter hit him. “A school teacher, Tauseef, spotted us and he told me to stay at my place. After that, he beat me up with a stick,” the student said. “Despite the fact that use of stick is not allowed in our school, he flouted all the rules and thrashed me like anything,” the student said and demanded stern action against the accused.
Due to thrashing, the boy was taken to hospital for treatment as there were injury marks and scars on his back.
Station House Officer (SHO) Handwara, Muzaffar Ahmad, told Excelsior that the police received a complaint from victim’s father and based on that, they registered a case against the teacher. “Basically, the boys were playing and in the meantime, the teacher thrashed one of them,” he said. In reply to a question, the senior officer said that they have traced the accused teacher and he is on his way to the police station. “Earlier he was absconding,” the SHO added.
Police have registered a case under FIR number 250/2015 under sections 342, 323 RPC and 41 Juvenile Justice Act.
