RAMBAN, July 16: A seventeen-year-old girl was killed, while ten others got injured, when the Tata Sumo they were traveling in, skidded off the road and rolled down in nallah near Shahbanbas area of tehsil Banihal.
The ill-fated vehicle bearing registration number JK19-1614, was on its way to Halla, Chanderkote in district Ramban from Mattan Kashmir, when the driver lost control over the steering and the vehicle plunged into nallah near Shahbanbas in tehsil Banihal, resulting into on the spot death of a girl and injuries to 10 others.
After getting information, police and locals rushed to the spot, started rescue operation and also retrieved the dead body of the girl, who has been identified as Pooja Devi (17), daughter of Om Prakash of Halla, Chanderkote.
All the injured were rushed to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Banihal in police and other vehicles, from where they were later referred to SOURA, Srinagar.
The injured have been identified as Ram Nath, son of Panchi Ram of Halla Chanderkote, Om Prakash, son of Ram Nath, his wife Kanta Devi, his daughter Krishma Devi, his son Arjun Singh, Luddar Mani, son of Ram Nath, his wife Rita Devi, Balwant Singh, son of Ram Nath, his wife Guddu Devi, his son Suraj Singh, all residents of Halla, Chanderkote.
The body of the deceased was handed over to family members for last rites after completing medical-legal formalities at SDH Banihal.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Banihal police station and manhunt has been launched to nab the driver, who escaped from the spot after committing the accident.
