RAJOURI, Apr 13: Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, Vikas Kundal ordered an inquiry after Tehsildar Sunderbani and three others were injured in a scuffle in Tehsil complex Sunderbani today.
Official sources said that trouble started when Tehsildar Sunderbani, Ravi Shankar Sharma was in his official quarter just with in the Tehsil complex and getting ready for his office. One Chander Mohan, a local from Ward No. 1 Sunderbani and an employee in Agriculture Department, resorted to heated arguments with the Tehsildar, producing a stay order from a local court, with the aim to stop local administration from its proposed anti-encroachment drive today. Chander Mohan along with some others allegedly tried to manhandle the Tehsildar amidst arguments. Then his staff came to the rescue and a scuffle took place at the site in which Chander Mohan sustained some injuries. Then Tehsildar moved to his office and also informed SHO Sunderbani, Shiv Dev Singh about attack on him by some people. He also arrived there immediately with some cops.
As they were sitting in the office, a relative of Chander Mohan along with many others entered the office and attacked Tehsildar on his head with a glass bottle. While Tehsilar sustained serious head injury, SHO sitting near him had also minor injuries with broken glass pieces in his hand. The officer was rushed to Sunderbani hospital from where he was referred to Jammu as his condition deteriorated. He had vomiting on the way. The attacker, a nephew of Chander Mohan escaped from the spot. Then Chander Mohan and two others also moved to the hospital with injuries and where they were provided treatment. Later, Chander Mohan was also shifted to GMC Jammu.
The police registered two FIRs No. 20 and 21/ 2022 in this connection against Chander Mohan, Anil Lakhanpal and Devinder Kumar Sudan and three others and started investigation. No arrest was reported till late this evening.
SDPO Nowshera, Tausif Ahmed also reached there after some time and controlled the situation. He said that on the direction of Addl DC, the Tehsildar and his team had to remove the encroachments from the new road leading to local Sub District Hospital. Some people including accused party had allegedly encroached Government land along the Nallah. They reached there in Tehsil office before the launch of operation and tried to halt this move. He said the accused will not be spared.
Meanwhile, DC Rajouri Vikas Kundal directed ACD Sunderbani Krishan Lal to hold detailed inquiry into the incident, listening both the sides and file a report within a week.
Deputy Commissioner, along with ADC, Rajouri Vinod Behnal himself reached Sunderbani town and led the proposed anti-encroachment drive by Revenue staff and cleared nearly 10 kanals of encroached prime Government land from the possession of some locals. The team was supported by strong contingent of police led by SDPO Nowshera Tausif Ahmed.
