Hyderabad, July 15: Aurobindo Pharma Foundation (APF), the philanthropic and CSR arm of Aurobindo Pharma Ltd, has donated Rs 2.4 crore for construction of Farmers Training Centre & Custom Hiring Centre along with godown in Borapatla (Medak District) for the agricultural upliftment of Borapatla & Reddykhanapur Villages through the NGO Mahila Abhivruddhi Society (MAS).
This facility was inaugurated by Narsapur Constituency MLA Ch. Madan Reddy on Saturday in the presence of other key dignitaries from the Government and APF. To transform the village of Borapatla into a “Model Village”, Hyderabad based Aurobindo Pharma Foundation first adopted this village in the year 2016-17 and in collaboration with the NGO, Mahila Abhivruddhi Society, Andhra Pradesh (APMAS), numerous comprehensive and holistic rural development projects were carried out to improve sanitation, infrastructure, providing safe drinking water, among others in the village. Aurobindo Pharma Foundation has also renovated the lift irrigation facility in the village to irrigate 700 acres of land in two crop cycles, besides taking up other community development activities such as social forestry through the Palle Prakruthi Vanam scheme of the Telangana Government, supporting Vidya Volunteers in government schools, creating connectivity in the village through CC roads, improving fire safety preparedness to handle fire mishaps and other emergencies through Industrial Fire Safety Association (IFSA), and creating a healthy environment in the village by providing garbage pick-up vehicles and tractor for improved solid waste management and planting of various saplings around the village to improve the air quality and environment of the village. Recognizing that agriculture is the primary occupation in Borapatla and Reddykhanapur villages, Aurobindo Pharma Foundation initiated a Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) as a corporate social responsibility project. Jai Kisan Agriculture Producer Mutually Aided Co-operative Society Ltd. (FPO) was registered under the Telangana Mutually Aided Co-operative Societies Act to support around 1,750 farmers from these two villages. The FPO provides training in sustainable agricultural practices, conducts farm visits, and offers quality farm equipment at affordable prices. Currently, the FPO has 291 shareholders and to further strengthen this FPO, APF has sponsored the construction of Farmers Training Centre and Custom Hiring Centre along with godown in Borapatla and Reddykhanapur villages. On this occasion K. Nityananda Reddy Garu, Director, Aurobindo Pharma Foundation, said “We are delighted to witness Borapatla village transforming into a Model Village and encouraging the local population to adopt and enact various social development activities. Through the Farmer Producer Organisation, we have been empowering farmers with training, access to farm equipment, and better market opportunities. The establishment of the Farmers Training Centre and Custom Hiring Centre will further strengthen our efforts in enhancing the livelihoods of small and marginal farmers”. (UNI)
