Temps across region increase

SRINAGAR, Dec 17: The cloud cover in Kashmir led to an increase in the minimum temperatures across the region today with Srinagar recording minus 0.5 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department in Srinagar said that minimum temperatures improved appreciably due to nightlong cloud cover.
Srinagar today recorded a minimum temperature of minus 0.5 degrees Celsius. Gulmarg witnessed minus 6 and Pahalgam minus 1.5 as the minimum temperature today.
A fresh spell of snowfall blanketed Kupwara today.
The snow clearance work was launched by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) at all passes in the Kupwara district.
A 40-day long period of harsh winter cold known locally as the ‘Chillai Kalan’ in Kashmir starts this week. It starts on December 21 and ends on January 30. The temperature during this 40-day period drops and mostly remains below zero degrees Celsius.
