Temps dip to below zero

SRINAGAR, Jan 10: The temperatures across Kashmir plummeted last night to below freezing bringing chill back to Kashmir after almost a week.
For last six consecutive nights the temperatures in Kashmir remained above freezing.
The minimum temperature dropped by 5.5 degrees in Srinagar to settle at minus 3.8 degree Celsius. The day temperature, however, settled at 10.0 degree Celsius.
The minimum temperature increased by one degree in Gulmarg as it recorded a low of minus 9.2 degrees Celsius against previous night’s 10.3 degrees Celsius. The day temperature settled at 7.2 degrees Celsius.
The mercury in Pahalgam also increased by one degree to settled at minus 6.3 degree Celsius against previous nights low of minus 7.1 degrees Celsius. The day temperature settled at 8.1 degree Celsius.
Qazigund registered minimum temperature of minus 2.6 degree Celsius, down by 4.2 degree compared to the previous night. The day temperature settled at 9.5 degree Celsius.
The mercury in Kokernag settled at minus 1.4 degree Celsius compared to 0.1 degree Celsius of the previous night. The day temperature settled at 8.9 degree Celsius.
Kupwara, in North Kashmir, registered a drop of 1.5 notches in the mercury as it recorded a low of minus 3.0 degree Celsius. The day temperature of Kupwara settled at 10. 9 degree Celsius.
The mercury in Leh town dropped by a degree to settle at minus 14.7 degree Celsius against 13.5 degree Celsius of the previous night. The day temperature, however, settled at 4.1 degree Celsius.
Kargil town recorded a low of minus 13.0 degree Celsius, up by one degree compared to previous night. The day temperature recorded at minus 1.0 degree Celsius.
The MeT Office said there is possibility of light rains or snowfall in the Valley over two days from January 12.
