Tension continues over Kashmiri student’s death in Hyderabad

SRINAGAR : Tension continued in major parts in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, where thousands of people, including women, are protesting against the death of a Kashmiri student in university campus hostel at Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, the demonstrators refused to lay to rest the body of the deceased student Mudasir Kamran, alleging that he was tortured before being hanged to death.
Despite imposing restrictions under section 144 CrPC, thousands of people, including women and chilren, from different parts of the district gathered at Parigam village, raising separatist slogans.
A senior Jamaat-e-Islami leader led the ‘Namaz-e-Janaza’ of Kamran, joined by thousands of people.
However, the demonstrators refused to bury the body after torture marks were found.
The family members of the deceased student alleged that after the blast at Hyderabad, Kamran was taken into custody by police and later tortured. Kamran had participated in the protest after parliament attack convict Afzal Guru was hanged in Delhi’s Tihar jail on February 9, they said alleging that it was a murder and not suicide.
Raising slogans against the Hyderabad police, the demonstrators demanded action against those involved in the alleged murder.
People of main Pulwama town alleged that curfew has been imposed since last evening and nobody was being allowed to move out of their homes.
“We were not allowed to purchase essentials, including bread, milk and vegetables,” residents of the town alleged.
People took to streets at village Parigam and main Pulwama town and other areas yesterday after hearing that a Kashmiri student Mudasir Kamran, was found dead in the hostel room at Hyderabad.
The demonstrators, who also pelted stones on passing vehicles alleged that Kamran was killed during interrogation by Hyderabad police for his participation in the recent demonstrations against the hanging of parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
Similar allegations were levelled by Mutahida Majlis-e- Mashawarat (MMM), who had called for a general strike today and asked people to march towards Parigam tomorrow to express solidarity with the family of Kamran.
