KATHUA, June 9: Panic gripped Chenab Textile Mills Kathua following the death of a laborer who had received over 90 percent burn injuries with boiler water on June 2 while working on Dye Unit of the mill.
As tension prevailed in the area with workers becoming panicky and agitated, large number of security personnel including the JKP and CISF jawans have been deployed in the mill premises to avert any untoward incident. Click here to watch video
A large number of the laborers of CTM and victim’s family members including the women assembled in Labour Colony when the news about the death of Om Parkash a worker spread in the colony. The panic gripped the colony and tempers ran high over the death of Parkash who died while working in the CTM’s Dye Unit after receiving about 90 percent burn injuries on June 2 when boiler water fell on him and he succumbed to his injuries today.
The protestors were demanding the compensation of Rs 50 lakh from the Mill management and the expenses of education of his children be borne by the management and conducting of the postmortem of body and legal action into the matter. The situation took critical turn when the dead body was not handed over to family for some time. The group of laborers also visited to Police Post Hatli Morh and demanded legal action.
The wife of deceased Kanta Kumari said that her husband, Om Parkash resident of Patna, Bihar was working in CTM for last ten years in Dye Unit. On June 2 water of Boiler leaked out and Om Parkesh’s body received burn injuries. He was immediately shifted to GMC Kathua and after two days ,he was referred to Jammu. As his condition deteriorated, the injured was shifted to a private hospital in Punjab. But he succumbed to his injuries on the way. The family was demanding the compensation of Rs 50 lakh and education expenditure of his children be borne by the management as the family has no other source of income.
The Management is also holding negotiations with the victim’s family.
Following the tense situation , police and security personnel in large numbers were deployed in factory premises to avoid any unlawful activity. The CTM Management sources told that the company will give the benefits to victim’s family to which it is entitled and make all possible effort to help the family for their survival.
Later the Kathua police conducted the postmortem of the body and handed over it to family members for last rites. The Dy SP Kathua, Shammi Kumar said that police has started investigation under Section 174.
