SURANKOTE (Poonch), Nov 10: Tension gripped the township of Surankote after a minor clash between the two sects of a particular community during a religious procession today.
The trouble started when the members of the other sect objected the participation of some families in the religious procession. Some families from Sanei village had recently joined them and also participated. This led to clash between the two sides. There was minor stone- pelting on the procession and this created tension as some members in the procession also responded in the same manner.
Tehsildar Surankote and SHO controlled the situation. SDM Mendhar Ramesh Kumar and SDPO Amit Basin besides Addl SP Javed Mir also rushed to the town. They ensured additional deployment of police force and also talked to the elderly members of both the sects.
Later, SSP and DC Poonch also reached. With the prompt action by the Administration the communal-tension was defused and possible trouble averted. Hardly three persons sustained minor injuries in the clashes. The senior officers appealed the members of both the sects to maintain peace and brotherhood.
