JAMNAGAR/RAJKOT, May 5:
Police today searched residential areas around major petroleum refiners in the Jamnagar city, and released photographs of five suspected LeT terrorists, following an alert of terror threat from the intelligence agencies.
Coast Guard beefed up the security along the Jamangar coast with the help of local police. The police have also put up posters featuring the five suspects in the areas around the refineries.
Intelligence inputs from central agencies, received by the state police yesterday, said there was a specific threat of terrorist strike in Jamangar and Ahmedabad.
Jamnagar houses major oil refineries of Reliance and Essar, apart from oil pipelines of State-run oil companies.
“Jamnagar is high on the terror list due to its proximity to Pakistan and critical installations like oil refineries, major pipelines, and the Dwarkadish temple,” city Commissioner of Police Subash Trivedi said.
“We have beefed up the security in and around the refineries. We have also held meetings with CRPF which guards the refineries,” he added.
“We have also released the sketches of the five suspected terrorist that have been provided to us with the information that they might have sneaked into Gujarat. The photos have been put up in poster forms in and around the refinery complexes for awareness of general public,” the police officials said.
Rajkot range IG, Pravin Sinha, also confirmed the search operations, but refused to disclose more information. (PTI)
