As per a police spokesperson, the terror associate, Abdul Qayoom alias Bittu, was detained in Udhampur for his role in providing logistical support to terrorist groups.
Qayoom, a resident of Kadwah in Basantgarh, had been actively involved in facilitating terrorist organizations by serving as a guide and assisting in their operations, he said.
He was arrested following the culmination of a police operation, which led to his detention under the PSA, added the police spokesperson.
According to him, Qayoom’s arrest followed a series of FIRs registered against him at the Basantgarh police station for his involvement in terror-related activities.
His detention under the PSA was ordered by the authorities to prevent further disruptions to peace and security in the region, he said.
With this arrest, the number of terror associates detained in Udhampur District has risen to three, with Abdul Satar of Ponara Soni being previously detained under the PSA on November 29 for similar activities.
In Kishtwar, the police spokesperson said, a known OGW, Jaffer Hussain Butt, was booked under the PSA for his involvement in aiding banned terrorist organizations in their unlawful activities.
Butt, a resident of Hunjala in Kishtwar, had been actively working to support terror activities in the region, he said.
His actions had posed a serious threat to the stability of the district, and after thorough investigations, he was detained under the PSA to prevent further anti-national activities, said the police spokesperson.
Butt’s detention aimed to protect the youth of Kishtwar from being influenced by such individuals and to maintain law and order in the district. He was subsequently lodged in District Jail Kathua, he added.
Meanwhile, in Kathua, Liyaqat Ali, another hardcore OGW, was detained under the PSA for his long history of anti-national activities.
Ali, a resident of Lohai Malhar in Kathua, had been involved in several criminal cases since 2003, including charges of attempt to murder, waging war against the government, and aiding terrorist elements, said the police official.
His criminal record includes charges related to harassment, wrongful confinement, and assault, and he has consistently supported terror elements by providing shelter and logistical support, he said.
His name had surfaced in multiple FIRs, including FIR No. 148/2003 for serious offenses. Ali’s detention was a necessary step to prevent him from further destabilizing the region, and he was lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu, the police official added.
