“We will not let development in J&K be derailed. If there are gaps in the Security Grid or shortcomings, they will be addressed, but we will not allow any hurdles to stop people from benefiting from the return to normalcy and development,” he said.
The Chief Minister, while calling the attack tragic, said it was an attempt to show that the situation in Kashmir is not normal. He also noted that 35 years of violence have yielded nothing.
“How can using violence against innocent people be justified, and what will it achieve? We have seen this for the last 35 years, and nothing has changed in J&K. If J&K gains anything, it will be in a peaceful atmosphere,” he said.
Omar said the Gagangeer attack highlights the need for the administration, especially the security forces, to maintain a high level of alertness and ensure that such attacks are prevented.
He recalled that the last such attack occurred years ago on the IRCON camp during the railway tunnel project.
“In this regard, I have spoken with the DGP, advising that police ensure that those overseeing major projects do not take security lightly. They should do whatever they can, and the security forces will address any gaps,” he said.
Omar also noted that vested interests have never wanted normalcy in Kashmir. “We have defeated these elements before, and they will face defeat again.”
The Chief Minister added that people have voted to have their daily issues resolved and to live a seamless life. He mentioned that next month, the Legislature will begin its work.
“People participated enthusiastically in the elections, hoping for an easier life. These attacks will not deter us from that mission. In the first week of next month (November), the legislative session will begin, and the Assembly will start its work.”
Earlier, Omar Abdullah visited SKIMS Soura, to inquire about the condition of civilians injured in the recent Gagangeer attack. During the visit, the Chief Minister was briefed by Director SKIMS, Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie, along with a team of senior doctors, on the health status of the injured and the medical procedures being followed for their treatment.
Omar personally visited each injured speaking with them about their injuries and receiving detailed updates from the medical staff on the ongoing line of treatment. He expressed his concern and care for the victims, directing the doctors and hospital administration to provide the best possible treatment and care to ensure their swift recovery.
In his interaction with the families and attendants of the injured, Omar reassured them of his support, encouraging them to reach out if they needed any additional help.
He emphasized the importance of ensuring that all necessary medical resources were made available to the patients.
