NEW DELHI: Terrorist outfits such as Al- Qaida and ISIS have failed to succeed in India because of the strength of unity shown by every section of the society, including Muslims, Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said today.

According to a statement, the minority affairs minister also stressed that secularism is India’s commitment and culture.

He lauded India’s role in world-wide efforts against terrorism.

The minister made the remarks during his meeting with a delegation led by the grand mufti of the Syrian Republic, Ahmad Badr Eddine Hassoun, at Antyodaya Bhawan here.

Terming terrorism as the “biggest” threat to the world, Hassoun said India’s unity and culture of tolerance are an example and a source of inspiration for the entire world, the statement said.

“Terrorist organisations like Al-Qaida and ISIS have failed to succeed in India in their nefarious designs only because of strength of unity shown by every section of the society, including Muslims,” the statement quoted the minister as saying.

“India’s culture and tradition is filled with peace, brotherhood and human values,” he added.

Naqvi further said that those “evil” elements who were misusing Islam as their “safety cover” were the “enemy” of both the religion and entire humanity.

Lauding India’s role, Naqvi said it has been playing a major role in world-wide efforts against terrorism.

“India has adopted zero tolerance policy against terrorism,” he said.

Noting that entire world has realised that terrorism is a threat not limited to any particular country, Naqvi said all the countries should give priority to defeating elements spreading it.

On the Centre’s priorities, Naqvi said it has been working with “development with dignity” commitment.

Hassoun said India’s cultural harmony, brotherhood, unity and culture of tolerance RE an “example and a source of inspiration for the entire world”, the statement said.

“Terrorism is the biggest threat to the entire world. India has always played a major role in global efforts against terrorism,” he added.

The grand mufti of Syria also said that Islam has given a strong message against terrorism and all other form of violence.

Hassoun also praised the ongoing development works carried out by the Modi Government, the statement said. (AGENCIES)
