JAMMU, Oct 12: Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee, eminent theatre director, Padmashree Balwant Thakur today featured at Natrang’s International Theatre Talk Show, live on its Facebook Page.
In an enriching interaction, he shared his illustrious vision of theatre with the global audience.
Balwant Thakur is one of the most creative theatre directors of the country who have given a new identity to Indian theatre with their highly innovative theatre productions.
Decorated with the highest Indian honour in performing arts-Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Direction in theatre, Balwant Thakur is known as magic man of theatre, his outstanding visual poetics on stage like ‘Ghumayee’, ‘Bawa Jitto’, ‘Suno Eh Kahani’, ‘Chauraha’ and ‘Mahabhoj’ have vibrated the theatre scene of North India.
Credited for bringing Dogri theatre to the National and International limelight, he has been highly instrumental in creating a new cultural renaissance in Jammu and Kashmir.
In Children’s theatre, Balwant Thakur is one among the very few theatre directors of the country who have revolutionized the theatre scene and have evolved a new dramaturgy for children.
In a very lively session, Thakur narrated his significant journey of theatre which was full of persistence, dedication, discipline, determination and invigorating passion.
He suggested the same attributes along with unshaken consistency to those who want to excel in the field. He also resolutely shared that to realize his dream of making Jammu an ultimate cultural destination, Natrang is going to create a unique campus/infrastructure hosting multi-auditoriums, workshop studios and a lot of other cultural facilities and the same would revitalize the cultural scenario of the region. Having himself done meaningful and transformational work with children, Thakur strongly advocated for substantial inclusion of theatre in education for the overall mental/physical growth of children.
