Although the two – the breach in security of Parliament and giving it a political spin crudely in a bid to somehow ”reach” the seat of power in New Delhi – cannot be used as analogies , yet matured analysis would deduce that politicising the unfortunate but most condemnable act of enacting the criminal act of treacherously defiling the sanctity of the highest seat of our democratic system – the Parliament– would not help the Congress led INDI Alliance to come closer to any prospects of tasting power in 2024. That is how the caption of these lines can be deciphered. Any amount of cheap and bizarre politicising , instead, is fraught with the consequences of making the ”destination” farther and more distanced. Let there be some amount of semblance even in raising voice on sensitive issues concerning the nation instead of milking political capital out of it. The world is looking at us with a mix of bewilderment and a sense of great belief . In other words, while the country is making strident progress as acknowledged by the concerned world bodies and is poised to emerging as a leading powerful economy , at the same time some opposition parties are continuously appearing to put spokes in the wheels of such development or keep on parroting – “Mehengai , Berozgari even Bukhmari , Kissan Badhaali and collapse of economy “. Not only that, even in most sensitive issues like unexpected security breach of the Parliament , the way it is taken up by the opposition , it appears either they lend indirect support to the incident or try to justify the “anger ” of those who breached the security . Prime Minister Narendra Modi verily, therefore, accused the opposition parties of providing ”muted and indirect ” support to the condemnable act of the security breach.
While the opposition is expected to play an effective role of “checks and balances” to question the Government and seek necessary clarification and even corner it on issues where it feels the Government has gone astray and somewhat adrift, at the same time it must do it by employing the democratic tools of debates , discussions and even by lodging protests within the ambit of high traditions of Parliamentary system . A matured , responsible and robust opposition is necessary for effective democracy where besides opposing and raising questions, it should also provide alternate solutions and cooperate with the Government where national interests are involved. However, for the last few years, an impression is gathered about the functioning of the Parliament that there are two warring sides bent upon settling all scores between them there on the floor of the Parliament itself instead of two sides of the same democratic system – the treasury benches and the opposition benches – both effectively proving to be cardinally important and sacrosanct in respect of Parliamentary democracy. What is derived from and achieved by jumping on tables, barging in the well, continuously sloganeering , displaying placards, trying to keeping on shifting those in front of focussing telecasting cameras, tearing papers , throwing torn papers towards the Chair and lately even trying to near it ? How are people “served” in this manner and “Muddaon ki baat ” done ? Very often, we hear from many opposition parties that Government is shirking from “Muddaon ki baat ” or not talking on issues.
We must also acknowledge that either the Prime Minister or the Home Minister should have made a brief statement in the Parliament on the issue of the security breach as demanded by the opposition which already otherwise feels the pinch of having got worst drubbings in the Assembly polls of three states widely termed as “Semi Final ” of 2024 general elections. Heavens would have not fallen if a brief statement would have been made by either the PM or the HM inside the Parliament which would have taken the wind out of the sails of the those opposition parties who would have been planning to make an issue out of it just to trouble the government. It is also to be stressed upon that the two misguided persons who managed to indulging in such a heinous crime to terrorise the MPs , the Chair and other staff inside the Lok Sabha where routine proceedings were going on , is a gross security lapse for which fixing accountability should be an assignment on priority. Their four other “comrades” from outside the Parliament complex were reportedly up to some more mischief , however, having all been arrested in time . Those authorities who are supposed to never allow any complacency to visit their vigil and eagle eyed surveillance cannot get away with any type of alibi as to why the concerned “visitors” were not frisked thoroughly including asking to taking off their shoes . The adage , ”Savdhani hatti, tou durghatna ghatti ” or half-hearted alertness means invitation to mishaps, is an all time tested truth – and it unfortunately proved so.
We are confident about the professional expertise , next to none in the world, of our investigating agencies to get to the bottom of this incident and a seeming larger conspiracy as it cannot be any coincidence that on 22nd anniversary of the heinous armed terror attack on Parliament which claimed the lives of 8 security personnel and a staff member , this security breach be timed exactly on December 13. It is shocking to call it as a manifestation of the anger of “Berozgari and Mehengai” as per the statement of senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and as usual blaming PM Narendra Modi , for it. It is misleading as much as it is a distortion as also is tantamount to giving a cheap political spin to such a sensitive issue . Lot of it was blared during campaigning in the recent Assembly elections but it did not ”work” as did the OBC /cast census pitch not resonate equally as well. The oft voiced “Murder of Democracy” too does not cut any ice.
The biggest human tragedy of the recent history after the partition of 1947 – that of the forceful exodus of over 5 lakh Kashmiri Hindus – from their thousands of years roots in Kashmir and losing assets and properties in hundreds of thousands of crores of Rupees, never ever thought to press for conceding to their demands by taking law into their hands, never on earth even dreamt of anything against the glory and the prestige of the country . Whatever they had, was all lost but not a single member of the community indulged in any unlawful activity prejudicial to national security and pride , not to speak of what is justified as the “reason” behind indulging in the December 13 security breach as a vent to the feeling of being unemployed and facing inflation. Such an explanation stinks of putting party interests over and above the national interests just for petty ends.
In which country there is no unemployment and no inflation? In which country there are no problems , no shortages and no deficiencies ? In which country there are no issues of various hues? How many countries have aggrieved citizens (if this theory has any base) resorting to such criminal acts defiling their highest seat of governance and how many opposition parties in such countries are providing a cover if not actually inciting for such acts ? And in states run by those opposition parties in the country who keep on chorusing Mehengai and Berozgari , on both the fronts there are more failures than any achievements in such states. Why they failed in the states run by them? Compare the inflation and unemployment rates of 10 years UPA rule with the period of the NDA rule to have a real picture of both to see which one has proven better.
There is one more view point floated by some opposition leaders and that is as to why both the incidents related to Parliament security , one in 2001 and the other this year, took place during NDA rule only. Well, in 2001, it was against a leader who made this country a nuclear power and the other this time, is making this country a military and an economic power. It is again a travesty that the immediate and ultimate aim of INDI Alliance is only and only to oust and defeat Modi and nothing else for this country while it is the other way with the one who is sought to be ousted — “how to make this country stronger and serve the people” . The countrymen understand the difference in a better way.
