JAMMU, Oct 2: The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Centre celebrated World Habitat Day here today. During the event, Er. Vinod Sharma, FIE; Former Commissioner, FDA (Food & Drug Administration) J&K Govt. was the Chief Guest and Prof. Dr. Bhawna Sharma, FIE; Chairman, IEI, Jammu Local Centre, and Sachin Tickoo , Honorary Secretary were present among large number of engineers, professionals and members of the civil society on the occasion.
In her welcome address Prof. Dr. Bhawna Sharma said that World Habitat Day is an occasion to reflect on the critical role those resilient urban economies plays in driving growth and recovery in our rapidly urbanizing world.
She said that it is essential that we continue to invest in constructing resilient urban economies that not only stimulate growth and recovery but also advance social equality and environmental sustainability.
Speaking on the occasion Chief Guest, Er. Vinod Sharma said that all the stakeholders must work together in an effective and mutually beneficial manner to implement measure for a Carbon Free Jammu & Kashmir and create sustainable settlements. He further emphasized to create green zones within Jammu City during implementation of Smart City Mission in Jammu.
Sachin Tickoo said this Day is celebrated to reflect on the state of human settlements and human habitat, to remind and remember that cities are not mere collections of buildings and roads. Cities are vibrant ecosystems of human potential and innovation. They are our future. We must work to improve access to electricity, water, sanitation, transport and other basic services while investing in education, skills development, digital innovation, and entrepreneurship.
