JAMMU, Dec 1: To commemorate the Golden Jubilee of BSF, 9th Battalion of BSF known as “The Nidar Nine”, deployed in Samba Sector organized a function “Golden Soiree” at its Headquarters Panjtilla, district Samba.
The occasion was marked by display of a documentary on BSF and history of 9th Battalion BSF, its achievements and the road map ahead.
The function was attended by senior officers of Army, Police, ITBP, BSF and District Administration.
On the occasion, rich tribute were paid to the martyrs of force by chief guest Rajesh Kumar Gurung, DIG BSF, Samba, Brigadier RS Rana, Commander 168 Brigade and Joginder Singh, SSP, Samba.
A cultural programme with patriotic fervour was presented by children of MV International School, Vijaypur and local artists.
Mementos and insignias of BSF Golden Jubilee were given to ex-servicemen of BSF, invitees and BSF families.
RK Gurung, DIG also unveiled a BSF Golden Jubilee time keeper.
Speaking on the occasion RK Gurung, DIG and Commander 168 brigade applauded the performance of Unit in operations, its combat capability and the achievements made by unit in recent past in Samba which has built relative peace in Samba District and no terrorist attack has been reported in past one year due to effective surveillance and anti-infiltration measures taken by 9th Battalion BSF also called “The Nidar Nine”.
The event organized in a festive manner ended with BSF theme song and fireworks.
9th Battalion of BSF under command of Arvind Ghildiyal, Commandant is deployed in most sensitive area of Samba which witnesses frequent unprovoked firing by Pakistan Rangers with recent incident of heavy firing on November 10. Two constables of the said battalion also attained martyrdom in December 2014 while gallantly facing and retaliating the unprovoked firing of Pakistan Rangers.
