JAMMU, Mar 1: Locals in Gangyal area here today foiled an attempt of the thieves to commit theft in their locality.
As per available information, two thieves barged into an empty house in Andheri Street-the locality behind Janata Flour Mill in Ward Number 56, Gangyal-to break open the lock of the gate and one of the doors of the house.
After some locals spotted the thieves trying to make a forcible entry into the house, they alerted other people living in the locality to corner the thieves from either side of the house but in the meantime, one of thieves escaped from the spot by jumping to another building.
The second thieves, daringly, jumped to another building to commit theft there, finding a woman in the house alone. He was, however, overpowered by a group of people who had already gathered outside the house where he was committing the theft.
Later, the thief was handed over to a team of police by the people.
Followed by this, the people of the locality met incharge Police Station Gangyal under the leadership of former chairman of the Jammu Municipal Corporation, Satish Sharma, and demanded a heightened vigil in the area.
Sharma also sought cooperation from police in identifying the drug addicts of the area and making the atmosphere in the locality conducive for women to roam around in the evening hours.
The incharge Police Station Gangyal assured the Gangyal residents that strict vigil shall be maintained in entire Gangyal area henceforth.
Satish Sharma was accompanied by Purna Verma, temple committee head, Baldev Singh Wazir, former Head of Ekta Vihar Gurudwara Committee, Rinku Sharma, Ajay Kumar, and other people.
