Theft cases on rise

SRINAGAR, Feb 10: The theft incidents in Kanispora area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district are on the rise with police failing to curb on such crimes.
In a recent theft case, police have arrested Gulshan Sajad Gani, who happens to be a police constable. However, sources said the police have been trying to shield him.
Sources said the identity card of the police constable and his mobile was recovered from the crime spot.
“After public pressure, police registered a case against him in police station Baramulla. Now police is trying to hush-up the case,” sources said.
They said the said constable was earlier involved in a criminal incident.
SHO Baramulla Ayaz Geelani admitted that theft incidents were on the rise in the area. “We are investigating the cases,” Geelani said.
