JAMMU, Feb 18: Some unidentified thieves cut and stole control cables of the in-service equipments at Grid Station Gladni during the intervening night of February 17 and 18.
The theft could have resulted in power black out in Jammu region but was avoided by the timely action by the staff of Jammu and Kashmir Power Transmission Corporation Limited (JKPTCL) and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL)
Giving details about the theft, Executive Engineer, TLMD-II Gladni Jammu said that the theft of control cables in 220 KV yard of 710 MVA 220/132/33 KV Grid Sub Station Gladni was ascertained during intervening night of February 17 and 18.
He said that the incident lead to tripping of one of the feeding 220KV line into the Grid at about 00:45 hours of February 18. “When checked, multiple control cables of different sizes pertaining to the three incoming 220 KV PGCIL transmission lines namely Salal-I, Salal-II and Jatwal, which were in-service condition, were found cut midway and stolen by some miscreants,” the officer said, adding, this act resulted in mal-operation of the protection system.
The Executive Engineer said that the matter of theft has been taken up with the District police authorities who have assured them that culprits shall be booked and security of the vital power installation shall be ramped up to prevent such incidents in future.
He asserted that the major Grid failure was averted by the vigilant and timely action of the operation staff of JKPTCL and PGCIL, who made immediate arrangements for restoring the protection system.
