CHANDIGARH, Mar 12:
There are 3.73 lakh arms licenses in Punjab with Gurdsapur having the maximum of them, the state assembly was informed.
The State Government has cancelled 813 arms licenses and of them, 89 belonged to persons who had criminal background.
According to a reply by the Punjab Government to an unstarred question on details of licenses of weapons in the state assembly on Saturday, there are a total of 3,73,053 arms licenses in the state.
The question was asked by AAP MLA Inderjit Kaur Mann.
Gurdaspur district had the maximum 40,789 licenses, followed by 29,353 in Bathinda, 28,340 in Patiala, 26,756 in Moga, 23,201 in Amritsar (Rural) and 21,432 in Ferozepur, according to the reply by the State Government.
The maximum 235 arms licenses were cancelled in Mohali, followed by 199 in Pathankot, 87 in Ludhiana (rural) and 84 in Faridkot, according to the reply.
All 27 arms licenses cancelled in Amritsar were held by persons having criminal background, it said. (PTI)
Notably, the AAP Government in November last year had banned public display of firearms and songs promoting gun culture and violence. (PTI)
