Thief held with gold ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh

JAMMU, Apr 7: Nagrota police today arrested a thief and recovered gold ornaments worth rupees ten lakhs from his possession.
According to a police spokesman, a written complaint was lodged by Bashir Ahmed Malik, resident of Toll Post, Nagrota at police station Nagrota that on October 16, 2016 they had gone to attend the marriage ceremony of their son and when they came back home they found that some unknown person(s) had stolen gold ornaments valuing Rs 10 lakh from their residence.
“On receipt of this information, a case FIR No 198/ 2016 was registered at police station Nagrota under relevant sections of law and investigation of the case started”, he said, adding, during investigation many suspects were rounded up and their domestic helper (servant) was also under the doubt of police but he was at large and under the surveillance of police.
The spokesman said that their servant namely Mohd Salim son of Mohd Ali, resident of Bamyal, Nagrota was apprehended today by Nagrota police and put under sustained interrogation. During interrogation, he confessed his involvement in the theft case. On his disclosure, the stolen gold ornaments, which include 3 Necklaces, 6 pairs of ear rings, two pair of Kangans, two pendants, 3 pair of Ear Tops, one Nath, 1 Tikka, all weighing 330 grams, were recovered from his residence and the case was worked out.
The whole operation was conducted by a police team from police station Nagrota headed by SI Jatinder Singh under the close supervision of SHO, police station, Nagrota, Inspector Daljeet Singh  and overall supervision of Dr Amit Sharma, SDPO Nagrota, Arun Gupta, SP Rural Jammu and Dr Sunil Gupta, SSP Jammu.
