LEH, Nov 27: District Police Leh arrested a thief and two women bootleggers.
Addressing a press conference here SHO Leh Inspector Sonam Angchok said that Police Station Leh had received a written complaint from a lady namely Nilza Angmo, wife of Skarma Chosphel, a resident of Sankar Leh regarding theft at her house during the day time by breaking the window pane.
He added that at that time all the family members were away from home for their respective duties.
The unknown person stole the valuable jewellery and traditional ornaments from the house, SHO said, adding that on the receipt of complaint, a case under FIR Number 157/19 under section 454 and 380 IPC was registered in Police Station Leh and investigation was taken up.
“During the course of investigation various team were constituted and these teams raided different suspected locations at old Bus Stand, Manetselding, Bomb Guard and Skara areas and lifted few suspected persons and conducted thorough interrogation”, SHO said, adding that during the interrogation one suspect namely Mohammad Bilal Sheikh, son of Ghulam Rasool Sheikh of Srinagar confessed and stolen ornaments including gold locket with black stone, gold kagu (traditional gold ornament) weighing 5 tolas, tangshil (traditional silver ornament), lhocha (traditional silver ornament), gold pendant, gold chain, gold ear top (one Pair), gold bangle (one pair) worth approximately Rs 4.95 lakh was recovered from his rented accommodation at old Bus Stand.
“On the confession of accused all the stolen jewellery and ornaments were recovered, seized and sealed in the presence of Executive Magistrate after proper identification by the complainant and relatives. The instant case has been solved within 24 hrs of the registration of the case”, SHO informed.
In another case, a team from Police Station Leh conducted raid at different locations in and around Leh city and seized huge quantity of illegal Country Made Foreign Liquor (CMFL) from the possession of two Nepali Ladies namely Kanchhi Sherpa, wife of Damai Sherpa and Maya Sherpa, wife of Tashi Sherpa, both residents of Nepal, at present Skampari.
A case under FIR Number 155/19 and 156/19 under section 48-A Central Excise Act were registered against them and after proper investigation, the charge sheet of both the cases were presented before Court for Judicial Determination within two days, SHO Leh stated.
