Incredible it may sound that some people are making the things worse for flood affected people of Srinagar.
The residents in various localities of Srinagar told the Excelsior that some urchins were riding on the boats during night and committing thefts in the houses abandoned by the people during floods.
The people, who had been rescued by Army and Air Force or had left the houses in boats, were being targeted by the thieves as they couldn’t lock the houses in view of flood water entering inside.
A number of theft incidents have been reported in various parts of Srinagar City. Sources said this was the reason that many people were now not ready to leave the houses for the fear of thefts.
“The people in many localities didn’t want to be evacuated. They want to stay put in their houses with relief material from Army and IAF as they feared that their belongings would be stolen by the thieves, who had been taking advantage of worst ever flood situation in Srinagar,’’ the people said and charged that authorities have completely failed to check the thefts.
