Thieves strike in Muthi area, residents protest

JAMMU, Jan 5: Thieves barged in four shops at Muthi and decamped with some valuables.
As per police sources, some unidentified thieves barged in two karyana shops of Purshotam Lal and Subash Sharma, cosmetic shop of Mukesh Khajuria and readymade garments shop of Buta Ram and decamped with valuables worth several lakhs.
The owners of the shops noticed the theft in the morning and reported the matter to Domana police station, where a case under relevant Sections got registered and manhunt has been launched to nab the culprits.
Meanwhile, the residents of Muthi and adjoining areas held protest and blocked the Jammu-Poonch highway over the theft incidents.
Large number of inhabitants assembled near Muthi bridge under the leadership of BJP Jammu District Rural general secretary Omi Khajuria and blocked the Jammu-Akhnoor highway. Retd RTO Madan Lal, Dr Kulbhushan Sharma, social activist Kewal Sharma and Raj Kumar Banathia were also present.
The protestors were demanding immediate arrest of the thieves’ vis-à-vis day and night police patrolling in the area.
On getting information, senior police officers including SP Rural Rajiv Pandey and DySP Sanjay Parihar rushed to the spot and assured that effective measures would be taken.
On the assurance, the protestors dispersed and vehicular movement was restored on the highway.
