SAMBA, June 2: Thieves decamped with cash and valuables from three shops here late last night. Police have registered a case and started investigation.
Police said that when the shopkeepers in the morning came to know that the theft has taken place in their shops and cash and other valuables were missing, they informed the concerned Police Station (PS).
It may be recalled that earlier many times this market was target of burglars who had decamped with many costly items from various shops. According to a shopkeeper, the thieves stole cash and some goods from his shop. The shutter of another shop was broken but they could not take anything from inside. From third shop, the thieves took away necklaces with notes valuing Rs 20 thousand. According to shopkeeper Ajay, thieves took away Rs 8 thousand from his cosmetic shop, which were kept in a purse. This purse belonged to a customer who had left it at the shop and it was to be returned to him.
The police visited the spot and made inquiries. The FSL team of the police was also brought to the market, which also started investigation. According to the police, a case has been registered and security measures are being discussed so that such incidents can be prevented in the future.
The local traders have shown grave resentment against the growing theft incident. The CCTV cameras installed in the area are also being scanned by the police.
