Sir,
The JD(U) and BJP in Bihar and exit of JD(U) from NDA has given rise to speculations that Third Front (a coalition of regional parties) will emerge on the national political scene. The recent overtures made by Naveen Patnaik, and Mamta Banerjee indicate so. However, Third Front formation is a difficult task in present times.
In the past also, many parties made endeavours in this direction, but they could not succeed due to a number of reasons. Left Party CPI(M) which in the past played a key role in Third Front formation is not interested in this experiment this time. Besides, there will be more Prime Ministerial aspirants in the Front which too may become a hurdle in smooth formation of the Front. The two alliances UPA and NDA experiment proved to some extent in the interest of the country as it provided political stability.
In case some regional parties are exploring possibility of such a front, they should have unanimity on many important issues like Defense, economy and foreign affairs. Otherwise, the country which is presently facing economic and political turmoil may have to suffer more.
Yours etc…
