Cases down to three digits, recoveries double

JAMMU, Jan 31: Jammu region today recorded 10 COVID casualties, highest in third wave of pandemic, but, in a major respite, the cases came down to three digits after nearly a fortnight while daily recoveries were close to double than the cases.
Among 10 fatalities, six were recorded in Jammu district, three in Kathua and one in Samba.
Six COVID victims were fully vaccinated while two were unvaccinated and status of two others was not known.
A 52-year-old man from Makhanpur Gujran in RS Pura and 68-year-old male from Sanjay Nagar, both of whom were fully vaccinated but co-morbid, succumbed to the virus in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu today while 64-year-old man hailing from Amar Colony Talab Tillo, who was not vaccinated but had multiple ailments, also died in the GMC Jammu.
An 80-year-old man from village Garkhal in Akhnoor tehsil of Jammu, 45-year-old from Panjtirthi and 75-year-old from Gho Manhasan in Domana, died of co-morbidities and virus in Narayana Hospital Katra, GMC Jammu and Military Hospital Satwari respectively. First two were vaccinated while the third one was unvaccinated.
Three COVID casualties which took place in Kathua district include two 71-year-old men hailing from Dhanna Basantpur and Sallan Dayalachak (both fully vaccinated), who succumbed to the virus in the Government Medical College Kathua and a 43-year-old man from Kathua, who was unvaccinated as well as co-morbid, passed away in the Military Hospital Pathankot.
A 72-year-old man, who was a resident of Naran Gangith in Samba district, died of co-morbidities and COVID-19 in the GMC Jammu.
Ten fresh deaths have taken Corona toll in Jammu region to 2285 including 1205 in Jammu district, 245 in Rajouri, 162 Kathua, 144 Udhampur, 141 Doda, 122 Samba, 107 Poonch, 69 Ramban and 45 each in Kishtwar and Reasi districts.
This was after nearly a fortnight that Jammu division recorded below 1000 cases. Significantly, as against 974 cases, nearly double persons recovered from the virus today bringing number of active positive cases down to 9579.
Twenty eight from District Jail Kishtwar, 12 police personnel of Indian Reserve Police (IRP) and four cops from Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) tested positive for the virus today in Kishtwar district. Few days back, 55 jail inmates were found infected in Bhaderwah jail of Doda district.
Twenty more officials of Jammu and Kashmir Bank, eight more employees and visitors at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office and 10 from the District Hospital, all in Udhampur district have tested positive for COVID-19.
Eighteen from Railways in Banihal tehsil of Ramban district were also found infected.
Three persons at Civil Secretariat and one official of Jammu and Kashmir Bank’s Canal Road branch tested positive for the viral infection.
Among 974 fresh cases in Jammu division, more than 50 percent i.e. 500 were reported from Jammu district followed by 120 in Udhampur, 107 Kishtwar, 90 Doda, 53 Rajouri, 32 Ramban, 26 Reasi, 21 Poonch, 14 Samba and 11 in Kathua district.
As against 974 cases, 1853 persons recovered from the virus.
Jammu region now has 1,57,478 Corona cases. Among them, 1,45,614 have recovered from the virus while there were 9579 active positive cases and 2285 casualties.
Active positive cases include 4966 in Jammu district, 1494 in Doda, 620 Ramban, 459 Udhampur, 413 Samba, 411 Poonch, 384 Kishtwar, 360 Kathua, 309 Rajouri and 163 in Reasi district.
Meanwhile, Parnote-A, Mahakund, Dharam & Nachlana areas of district Ramban have been declared as micro-Containment Zones in view of spike in COVID positive cases.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Ladakh today reported 133 fresh COVID positive cases including 102 in Leh district and 31 in Kargil.
Ladakh now has 1212 active positive cases—808 in Leh and 404 in Kargil.
Corona count in Ladakh stood at 25896. Of them, 24460 have recovered from the virus while there were 224 casualties—165 in Leh and 59 in Kargil.
