JAMMU, July 17: While describing former J&K Finance Minister Lt Girdhari Lal Dogra as staunch Congressman, former Union Health Minister and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad today said that those who differed with the ideology of Congress are today remembering Late Dogra on his 100th birth anniversary.
Without naming Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Dy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh, State BJP Chief Jugal Kishore Sharma or other top BJP leaders, Mr Azad said recognizing the Congress ideology and the principles of secularism of a true Congress leader late G L Dogra and paying tribute to him by those who always opposed such thinking and ideology, is remarkable for the Congress party.
“Girdhari Lal Dogra was a truly committed and 24 karat Congressman who was dedicated to the cause of poor and down trodden irrespective of caste, creed, colour, region or religion,” Mr Azad said while paying tributes to him on his 100th birth anniversary at PCC headquarters here today.
Mr Azad said Late Dogra was one of the tallest leaders of his time, who rose from a humble background and always remained committed to the principles of secularism, socialism and democracy. He played his role for establishment of democracy in the State and worked for promotion of peace and harmony in the State throughout his life. Above all, he was a good human being who was respected by one and all, Mr Azad maintained.
Recalling his long association with Late Dogra, Mr Azad said even those who differed with his political ideology are also remembering him on his 100th death anniversary, which is a tribute to his philosophy of life and the principles he lived for.
Mr Azad appreciated the PCC for its decision to hold one year long celebrations in different parts in the State on the life and contribution of Late Dogra. He also advised the PCC to identify other great leaders of different parts and regions in the State, who contributed a lot in the State and worked for strengthening Congress Party. He said the PCC should hold such programmes to educate the younger generations about the role and contributions of those leaders during their time.
Pradesh Congress Committee president, Ghulam Ahmad Mir while paying tributes to Late Dogra remembered his contributions to the State and the Congress party during his long political career.
Mir said Late Dogra served the state in different capacities as Member of Constituent Assembly and Minister for Finance for about 27 years. He twice remained Member of Parliament. He was very respectable leader of the party who had direct access to the Congress high command.
His simplicity and commitment to the ideology of the Congress party would be always remembered, Mir added.
The PCC chief further said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior leaders are remembering Late Dogra’s contributions and philosophy of life which is matter of great satisfaction to the Congressmen and followers of Dogra Sahib’s principles and teachings.
Mir said that PCC has decided to hold functions during the year in connection with 100th year of birth anniversary of Lt Dogra in different parts to educate the masses about the contribution of Lt Dogra. He said that senior Congress leader and former MP Madan Lal Dogra will head the committee in this regard.
