Ashura observed with religious passion in Ladakh

KARGIL, LEH (LADAKH) Sept10: Youm-e-Ashura was observed with great religious passion in Ladakh region today with thousands of Shia mourners took out an impressive processions mourning the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad who was martyred in sweltering deserts of Karbala in the seventh century.
In Kargil the processions were carried under the supervision of Anjuman Jamiatul Ulama Isna Asharia Kargil (AJUIAK). More than 20,000 mourners from rural areas thronged the main town in form of 25 separate processions reciting elegies and beating their chests to mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussain.

Coming from all the villages of the district, the processions passed through the main bazaar and had a brief halt at the Campus of AJUIAK. Hujjatul Islam Sheikh Ali Tingdoo oversaw the conduct of processions in the premises of AJUIAK Ladakh. After passing through Khomieni Chowk and Lal Chowk , the processions culminated at Qatilgaah-e-Hussaini where president AJUIAK Hujjatul Islam Sheikh Nazirul Mehdi Mohammadi over saw the conduct of the processions. Community recital of Ziyarat-e-Ashura was also held at the Qatilgaah. President AJUIAK, while addressing the mourners said that Imam Hussain offered the supreme sacrifice and stood against tyranny against all odds.
Hojjatul Islam Sheikh Nazir Mehdi Mohammadi threw a light on the philosophy of Ashura and delivered a brief Masayib.
Sheikh Nazir Mehdi Mohammadi also paid tribute to the martyrs of Karbala and prayed for the peace and communal harmony in the region as well as in the world.
He also complimented the District Administration, Health Department, MC Kargil, PHE Department, Power Department, Taxi Union , Truck and Bus owners, Media, volunteers of different organizations, Sabeel volunteers, Al Reza Health Care and Research Foundation (Health Wing of AJUIAK Ladakh for conducting blood donation camp and the concerned departments for their cooperation on the day of Ashura.
Meanwhile Al Reza Health Care and Research Foundation, Health Wing of AJUIAK Ladakh conducted a blood donation camp during which free checkup as well as donation and registration of blood donors was also conducted.
Thirty volunteers donated blood and 155 registered their name as volunteers for future use.
The Youm-e-Ashura observed with great religious passion in Leh to pay tributes to Hazrat Imam Hussain, and his companions for their ultimate sacrifice in battle of Karbala.
Thousands of people thronged to Leh town and participated in Ashura processions. The mourning processions beating their chest and back, reciting Noha started from Jama Masjid Chhutey-Rangthak and passed through Leh main bazar and concluded at Immam Bargha Leh and Balkhang Chowk.
The speakers on the occasion urged upon the people to be familiar with the philosophical values of Karbala which represents the everlasting stance of truth against falsehood and humanity’s struggle against injustice, oppression and cruelty, the cause for which Imam Hussain was martyred.
Ashura is observed as conclusion of a 10-day annual mourning period in Muharram by the Shia Muslims across the world.
It is worth recalling that Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad and other 72 of his companions were martyred at Karbala in Iraq in 680 AD after fighting daringly for justice against the much larger one lakh armies of Yazid.
Blood donation camps were also organized on the occasion of Youm-e-Ashura in which hundreds of volunteers contributed their blood as a mark of respect to the supreme sacrifice of Imam Hussain.
District administration has made adequate arrangements for the Youm-e-Ashura in terms of power, drinking water, medicare and sanitation in the town and also Police Department has maintained traffic regulation that has ensured smooth conclusion of Ashura processions in Leh.
