Thousands of pilgrims witness colorful procession

KATRA, Oct 22: Thousands of pilgrims were seen showering flowers and raising slogans in praise of Goddess Durga at the colourful procession taken out on 7th day of Navratra Festival from Asia Crossing, here on Monday.
Member Legislative Assembly,  Reasi, Baldev Raj Sharma  lit the sacred Joyti at Asia Crossing, Katra.
Navratra Festival being organized by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) and Department of Tourism in collaboration with local organizations at Katra.
The colourful procession comprising of various tableaus including Palki of Baba Jitto, Yater, Pahari Raja, Ramayna related scenes, Bands and folk dances of different States after passing through locations of holy Katra town like main bazaar, Dak-Bungalow and Chintamani temple finally culminated at Government HSS Katra premises.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Raghubir Singh,  Additional SP Katra, Mohan Lal,  Deputy Director  Tourism, Tarseem Lal, Tehsildar, Reasi, Mr. Gopal Singh, and officers of different department accompanied the chief guest.
In the meanwhile, to popularize local crafts and to generate awareness among the pilgrims coming to holy town on Navratra days  from within and outside the State, the District Administration of Reasi has installed stalls of Handicrafts and Handloom Departments in the premises of GHSS Katra.
Similarly the Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Rural Development have also displayed their exhibitions to popularize the State and Centrally sponsored schemes aimed at welfare of the weaker sections of the society. Fruit items of district Reasi displayed by the Horticulture Department under Technology Mission were the main attraction of the visitors.
