Three gold theft cases worked out, 5 held

GANDERBAL, June 16: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Ganderbal District claimed today they have solved three gold theft cases by arresting five people and recovering from their possession stolen cash and gold items worth several lakhs.
A police official said on April 18, 2024, Police Station Lar received a written complaint from one Farhad Yousuf of Yarmuqam who stated that some unknown persons entered his residence during the intervening night of April 17-18, 2024 and decamped with some gold items and cash.
On this, he said, a case FIR number 16/2024 under the relevant sections of the law was registered at Police Station Lar and further investigation taken up.
Further, on the direction of SSP Ganderbal Sandeep Gupta, the police official said a team under the supervision of Ghulam Hassan, led by SHO Lar was constituted to nab the culprits involved in the theft.
During the course of investigation, he added that two suspects identified as Tariq Ahmad Rather of Khan Mohalla Patti Takanwari and Manzoor Ahmad Chopan of Larson, Ganderbal confesed to their involvement in the crime.
During further investigation in the case, the police official said that the duo revealed that they and their gang members who had fled to Kargil were also involved in two more theft cases involving theft of stolen items including gold and cash worth several lakhs.
Accordingly, teams were dispatched to Kargil to arrest three more individuals identified as Sheraz Ahmad Guroo alias Sheru, of Gaad, Hanji Mohalla, Gund Roashan, Shwket Ahmad Saad alias Veeru of Narayan Bagh, Shadipora, and one juvenile (name withheld) were apprehended and the stolen items including gold items and cash worth several lakhs were recovered from their possession.
Among the items recovered from the possession of the accused are Rs 10000 cash, 7 gold rings, 12 earrings of gold, one gold broach, 2 gold ear tops, and two earrings.
Further investigation into the case is underway, added the police spokesperson.
