Three held with 109 kg poppy straw-like-substance

RAMBAN, Oct 11: Police in Banihal area here claimed today that they have arrested three persons and recovered 109 kilograms of poppy straw-like-substance from their possession.
A Police spokesperson said that on October 10th, 2023, a Punjab number Maruti Ertiga was signalled to stop for routine checking at Banihal but the driver of the vehicle tried to flee from the naka point on seeing the police.
As the driver of the vehicle was driving rashly to avoid the police, he said, the vehicle hit a parapet on the roadside.
The police spokesperson added that when the police team approached the vehicle that had met with an accident, its occupants tried to flee yet again but were overpowered by the alert jawans.
During preliminary inquiry, he said, the driver of the vehicle disclosed his name as Gurdeep Singh of Punjab, and two other people travelling in the vehicle were identified as Kuldeep Singh and Sukhjinder Singh of Punjab.
“As the vehicle was put to search, the police team recovered 109 kilograms of poppy straw-like-substance,” he said.
Accordingly, the accused have been arrested and booked in case FIR number 247/23023 under section 8/15/29 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Banihal and further investigation taken up.
The arrest and recovery was made by a police team under the guidance of Inspector Mohammad Afzal Wani, SHO Banihal, and the supervision of Ajay Singh Jamwal, SDPO Banihal, Gourav Mahajan, Additional SP and overall supervision of SSP Ramban, Mohita Sharma.
