JAMMU, Feb 2: A three-storey commercial building collapsed in Narwal area of Jammu. However, no loss of life or injury was reported in the incident.

According to the reports, a 3-storey building housing a commercial establishment dealing with automobile spare parts in shop numbers 172 and 173, suddenly collapsed in Yard Number 6, Transport Nagar, Narwal on Wednesday evening.
Reports said that no loss of life or injury was reported in the incident as people were evacuated from the building before the collapse. Sources told Excelsior that the commercial building had developed cracks due to ongoing construction work in the area under Smart City Project.
“As soon as the cracks started appearing in the building, the local authorities evacuated the people to safer places. At the time the building collapsed, there was no one present inside,” sources said, adding, there was no report of any casualties but hundreds of boxes of spare parts kept in the two shops in the building damaged partially or completely while some were evicted later from the debris.
Station House Officer (SHO) of Trikuta Nagar Police Station Nayat Ali said that they have registered a case under FIR Number 51/2021 under Sections 336,287,427 of IPC against the contractor who has undertaken some construction works in the area under Smart City Project and started investigation.
Meanwhile, office bearers of Motor Parts Dealers Association (MPDA) visited the spot under the president-ship of Rajinder Parshad Kakkar and demanded compensation for the shopkeepers from the LG Government. The office bearers also assured the owners of the shopkeepers for every possible help from the Association.
