Water supply to remain partially affected today

JAMMU, June 18: Intense thunderstorm along with rains lashed Jammu and adjoining areas this evening causing massive damage to public property in various areas here.
A number of trees and poles got uprooted at several locations and there was heavy damage to electricity infrastructure even as there were no reports of loss of life or injuries to anyone.
Electricity supply remained disrupted for hours together because of damage to the electricity infrastructure. Poles and trees were seen uprooted in Sainik Colony, Sector-6 of Channi Himmat and Sector 7 of Nanak Nagar besides other areas in and around Jammu.
Reports said that windstorm severely damaged temporary shelter in several places while a BSNL tower in Bishnah area fell on nearby houses developing cracks to the buildings.
Pictures of a Scooty hanging in air with electric wires wrapped around it were making round in social media with the claim that heavy wind fled the two-wheeler and stuck it in wires. According to police, there was no exact estimation of the damage to property.
As windstorm along with heavy rain damaged electricity infrastructure and led to power crisis, water supply shall remain partially affected in Jammu city on June 19. This was officially conveyed by Executive Engineer, Jal Shakti (PHE) city Division number 1.
Metrologist Mohinder Singh told the Excelsior that windstorm developed in hilly area because of convection and moved to plains. “It moved with a speed of 20 to 30 kilometers per hour and reached Jammu with 40 Kms per hour speed,” he informed.
