JAMMU, May 11: ‘Thursday Mind Meet’, a stellar platform created to ignite young minds of the Central University of Jammu by giving them an opportunity to upgrade their knowledge, develop their critical acumen and unleash their potential. was inaugurated today by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Sanjeev Jain on the university campus amidst the presence of eminent jurist, Justice Sunil Hali, acclaimed bureaucrat, B R Sharma; erudite academician Prof K L Bhatia and a promising judicial officer, Rekha Kapoor.
‘Thursday Mind Meet’ will be the meeting of minds every Thursday in this auditorium of campus, wherein a faculty member, a scholar and two students and an eminent invited speaker will deliberate over a topic related to academic, social, political or other contemporary issues.
In the inaugural address, Prof Jain said the ‘Thursday Mind Meet’ aims at developing competencies of the students beyond the routine classroom teaching and lab work because quality of education has notably changed in recent years.
In the welcome address, Prof Vandana Sharma, Dean School of Languages and Convener, ‘Thursday Mind Meet’, shared weekly schedule of the forum.
Speaking on the occasion, Justice Sunil Hali, highlighted the hypocrisy of developed nations in maintaining the sanctity of human rights, environmental policies and peace treaties agreed upon on global platforms. He invited young minds to think critically about the ground realities of global platforms and to take part in the conversation about peace and justice.
B R Sharma talked about the resolve invoked by the Prime Minister of making India a developed country by 2047. He mentioned how peace and development depend upon quality education for ensuring equal participation in governance and policy making of the nation.
Rekha Kapoor, Civil Judge and Secretary District Legal Services Authorities, Samba, threw light on the necessity of access to justice in terms of inclusive and sustainable development and focused on constitutional provision, remedies and legal aid ensured by of our Constitution.
Research scholar of CUJ, Shivendra Shadilya engineering student Ajitesh Sharma, and Shreya Dubey from the Department of English spoke on different topics.
The panel was moderated by Prof K L Bhatia, former Dean and Head, Faculty of Law, University of Jammu. Dr Sujata Kundan, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, delivered the formal vote of thanks.
