SUCHETGARH, Apr 7: National Spokesperson of Bharatiya Kissan Union, Rakesh Tikait has sought martyr status for farmers killed in cross border firing.
He was speaking at a public meeting along with Ch. Manmohan Singh, president All India Jat Maha Sabha during a visit to border villages of Suchetgarh to take stock of the problems confronting the Jat community in the region.
Manmohan Singh apprised Tikait that majority of Jat community is residing in the border villages of Jammu region right from Kathua to Mendhar.
He lamented that it’s quite unfortunate that these Jats continue to be deprived of OBC status till date.
“These people have a tale of travesty to narrate as at present, Jat community people in 11 States of India are enjoying the benefit of OBC status while there is no such provision for them in J&K,” Manmohan Singh maintained.
Both the leaders listened to the issues of the people of the area and assured them to resolve all the issues by taking up the same with the concerned authorities.
Tikait said that Bharatiya Kissan Union is standing with Jat community as well as with the farmers of J&K and shall fight for their rights.
Tikait and Manmohan Singh also visited BSF’s Octroi post on Indo-Pak border in Suchetgarh and met BSF jawans and lauded their services.
