JAMMU, Sept 30: As part of public sculpture project to educate and beautify Hyderabad on occasion of opening of prestigious UN Bio-Diversity Convention tomorrow, local sculptor Rajendra Kumar Tikku’s work would be one of twenty monumental sculptures that are put on permanent display in Andhra Pradesh’s capital city.
Talking to Excelsior, the local eminent sculptor, who returned here after attending one month long International Sculptor Symposium-2012, said that the public sculpture project organized by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation along with Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University was one of biggest of such kind of projects ever to be taken up by any municipal corporation of the country.
Besides Rajendra Kumar Tikku, other participants included leading national sculptors like Nagji Patel, Rajshekhran Nair, Robin David, Srinivas Reddy and international artists from Japan, Newzeland, Egypt, Italy and Serbia.
Tikku’s monumental work titled “This Shrine Outgrew its Own Roof——It was a Shrine of Faith” has been executed in Red Sandstone from Rajasthan. His visually impactful work at Hyderabad is part of artist’s artistic endeavor to bring out in tangible form the seemingly intangible aspect of the silent and sacred embedded in our civilizational life and tradition.
He further said it was high time that Jammu, which has already number of statues put on various roundabouts, should also think of organizing such event to educate as well as beautify the expanding city which is known for its historic places, monuments and worth seeing sights and which has been shaped by multitude of influences.
