Timber smugglers attack police, ASI injured

SAMBA, May 24: The timber smugglers attacked the police with stones, in which an ASI of the was injured in Diani Panchayat of Samba today.
According to police, on the basis of a special information, the police raided the timber smugglers in Loakhi village of Diani Panchayat at around 10 pm, but the smugglers attacked them and fled from the spot. The number of smugglers could not be ascertained in the darkness of the night. The injured ASI was brought for treatment to Samba District Hospital.
The injured ASI has been identified as Karan Singh. Later two people were arrested by the police and two Mahindra vehicles used were also confiscated. Those arrested by the police have been identified as Kalu Ram, son of Kirpa Ram resident of Niyadi Samba, while the other was identified as of Som Raj, son of Naseeb Chand of Daboh Samba. The police has started further action in the matter and registered a case against them under sections 307, 332 ‘336’ 34 and 26 IFA of IPC.
The SHO Samba, Deepak Jasrotia said that during night a police team raided on the basis of a special information, but they were attacked by the smugglers. “We have arrested two persons as well as confiscated their two Mahindra vehicles and Kher wood which was cut illegally. He said those who were involved in the attack are being identified and legal action will be taken against them.
