Timber smuggling bid foiled, 2 arrested

RAMBAN, Apr 30: Police today foiled an attempt to smuggle timber and arrested two persons along with six scants and 26 wooden planks.
Police spokesman said that on the basis of specific information, a police party from Police Post Patnitop headed by Sub-Inspector Annayat Hussain under the supervision of SP Ramban, Anil Magotra laid a special naka on the Highway. During the checking, a tempo traveler bearing registration number JK14A-7333 was intercepted. From the vehicle, police recovered six scants and 26 wooden planks, which were being smuggled to Jammu from Batote.
The driver of the tempo identified as Parmjeet Singh, son of Avtar Singh of Janipur Colony and his associate Tasleem Arif, son of Manzoor Ahmed Bhat of Ward No 3 Batote were immediately arrested.
During questioning, Tasleem Arif revealed that they were smuggling the timber at the instance of Nissar Wani of Batote, who had dumped the timber near the road side at Barthal Batote.
Police has registered a case in this connection and launched hunt to nab Nissar Wani.
