Timely action of villagers saves hundreds of fishes in Darmal pond

JAMMU, Sept 6: Hundreds of fishes have been saved from death in Darmal pond with the timely action of local inhabitants.
The villagers of Darmal and adjoining localities including Barnai who went for prayers in the temple adjoining the pond were shocked to see the dead fish floating over the water of pond this morning.
Later the villagers led by BJP district president Jammu Rural, Omi Khajuria and social activist, Ashwani Sharma and others contacted the Fisheries Department who pressed a team of doctors and experts into service and they with the help of villagers saved the other fishes after depleting the polluted water from the pond and filling it with fresh water brought through dozens of water tankers. They also put lime in the pond on the advice of experts from Fisheries Department.
With the timely action the remaining fishes in the pond were saved. The Department also deputed two of its employees on the pond for monitoring and advised the people especially the devotees not to offer flour to the fishes at least for the coming two months.
The Department officials will continue monitoring of the pond for some time to ascertain that the remaining fish are saved and also suggest the measures to the villagers in protecting the remaining fishes in the pond.
