REASI, July 26: To avoid a tussle between the local Gujjar inhabitants and the Tipper operators collecting sand and stones from Gujjar Kothi area adjoining Chenab river in Reasi, the authorities today temporarily prohibited mining in the area.
Up in arms over denial of entry for collection of sand and stones, the Tipper operators held a strong protest demonstration and blocked the road near Zero Morh. They raised slogans against denying them mining in the area and demanded justice.
The road blockage was lifted after SDPO Reasi along with other officials reached the spot and persuaded the protesters to disperse.
The trouble erupted after local Gujjars demanded that only they should be engaged as workers by the Tipper operators for collecting sand and stones. However, the Tipper operators expressed reservations over the demand since it was not feasible for them to depend on the local labourers only.
To avoid a tussle between the two, the authorities temporarily banned entry of Tippers in the area.
When contacted, Deputy Commissioner Reasi Shahid Choudhary said that the matter has almost been resolved by evolving a midway considering genuine view of both the parties.
