Srinagar, Feb 11: Tread Mill Test (TMT) services at Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, which had been non-functional for the past eight months, resumed today.
Alongside the restart, a new advanced TMT machine has been added to enhance the cardiology division’s capacity to manage the growing patient load.
Principal and Dean of GMC Anantnag, Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Najeeb, inaugurated the facility.
Interventional cardiologist Dr. Syed Maqbool highlighted the significance of the new high-end Schiller 320 machine, stating that its addition allows two patients to undergo testing simultaneously.
Dr. Shamim Iqbal emphasized that TMT is a crucial diagnostic tool for detecting coronary artery disease, one of the leading causes of death worldwide.
Another interventional cardiologist, Dr. Showkat Hussain Shah, explained that individuals experiencing chest pain, especially those with risk factors, should undergo the test to assess the need for angiography.
In addition to restarting the TMT services, Prof. Dr. Rukhsana also inaugurated a surgical skill lab at GMC Anantnag.
According to Dr. Nazir Wani, Head of the Postgraduate Department of General Surgery, GMC Anantnag is the first Government-run medical college in J&K to establish such a lab, aimed at providing hands-on training to doctors in surgical specialties.
