Toll in Kulgam encounter touches five

SRINAGAR : With one more civilian succumbing to injuries in the hospital, death toll in the Kulgam encounter has mounted to five.
Three civillians died, a police constable and a militant were killed when a group of ultras, travelling in the car, opened fire at a police party, which had gone Mir Bazar to investigate a road accident on the highway.
Providing details, official sources said, the militants opened firing at a police party, which was retaliated and in the encounter, two civilians died , a police constable was killed and four others injured. One more civilians later died in the hospital.
The injured police personnel have been admitted to Army base hospital.    The ultra killed in the encounter was  identified as Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant Fayaz Ahmad, who was involved in Udhampur attack on Border Security Force (BSF) convoy in 2015.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has also announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh on him. They said two militants, including one in injured condition, managed to escape under the cover of darkness after the attack at Mir Bazar.
A massive hunt has been launched to nab the militants, they said. This was the first major militant attack after Kulgam attack on cash van of Jammu and Kashmir Bank in which five police personnel and two bank employees were killed early this week. Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) had claimed responsibility for the attack. (AGENCIES)
