SUCHETGARH, Dec 1: underscoring the pivotal role of the upcoming Panchayat elections in revitalizing democracy at the grassroots level, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) General Secretary and DDC Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony today asked the party cadre to gear-up for Panchayat Polls.
On the directions of JKPCC Chief Tariq Hameed Karra, Tony chaired a meeting of party workers, here today.
Addressing the gathering, Tony highlighted that these elections are not merely a political exercise, but a critical opportunity for the people to shape their future by choosing leaders who prioritize development and public welfare over narrow agendas.
He expressed concern over the divisive tactics employed by certain forces to exploit communal sentiments for political gain and stressed that such approaches are detrimental to the collective progress of society.
Highlighting the Panchayati Raj system as the foundation of democracy, Tony said, “Panchayats are the basic tool of democracy, enabling people’s direct participation in decision-making. A strong Panchayat system ensures that the voice of the common man reaches the highest levels of governance.”
He called upon the people to adopt a performance-based approach while voting, ensuring that only deserving candidates committed to development and justice are elected and urged the party workers to participate actively in the electoral process and resist attempts to divide them, emphasizing that unity and vigilance are essential for driving progress and achieving inclusive growth in Suchetgarh and beyond.
Tony urged voters to remain vigilant against attempts to divide them and to elect representatives, who prioritize development and progress over narrow agendas.
