JAMMU, Oct 20: DDC Member Suchetgarh Taranjit Singh Tony today made a fervent appeal to the LG Manoj Sinha to give a serious thought over the demand of Rajput Community for declaring holiday on September 23 to mark the birthday of great ruler of the erstwhile state of J&K Maharaja Hari Singh.
Addressing a public meeting at village Pindi in Suchetgarh, the DDC member categorically made a point that the contribution of Maharaja in integrating the State with India during the time of partition in 1947 is itself immense and unmatched that makes the aforesaid demand the most genuine one. He said that no one can challenge that Maharaja Hari Singh was the high spirited king who brought in social justice and won the hearts of all communities irrespective of their religion, caste or creed.
Tony appealed the LG to give due respect to the sentiments of the Rajput community which wants to remember the great monarch of all times by this simple gesture of a ‘day off’ in his name. “In this way the whole region will also remember the great king under whose reign many social reforms and people friendly policies came into existence”, he said and added, “This is not a big deal for the Government especially when the entire population starting from North Kashmir to Southern end in Kathua and from Poonch to Doda is in one voice demanding holiday on September 23, every year”.
He said that the persona of Maharaja Hari Singh was so great that apart from Rajputs people of all communities have special respect for him and that is the reason they have endorsed the demand raised by the Rajputs. Tony said that the Government should announce September 23 as a holiday or else people of all shades of life will come on roads to protest the Government’s double standards.
