JAMMU, Sept 25: Department of Cardiology, Government Medical College, Jammu conducted two day workshop in Complex Coronary intervention at Super Specialty Hospital, Jammu. This was 12th workshop conducted at Department of Cardiology Super Specialty Hospital, Jammu.
The workshop was conducted by Dr. Ryuzo Hayashi , Director, Cardio Vascular Medicine, Daiyukai General Hospital in Aichi Prefecture Japan, Dr. Kitagawa along with Dr. Sushil Kumar Sharma, Head Department of Cardiology Government Medical College, Jammu. This workshop was organized to keep abreast with the latest in intervention cardiology particularly in field of complex coronary intervention.
“Interaction with International faculty in field of difficult interventions especially Coronary CTO’s is very important in improving the health outcome in this subset of cardiac patients,” Dr. Sushil K Sharma, said. Chronic total occlusion is defined as occlusion age of at least one month, with angiographic thrombolysis in myocardial infarction Grade 0 or 1. CTO’s are classified as early chronic and late chronic if their age is 1-3 months old and greater than 3 months old respectively, he added.
Sharma is credited with the establishment of angioplasty center in GMC, Jammu and in order to keep pace with the recent innovations and advances in the field of interventional Cardiology organized multiple workshops with the renowned cardiologist across the world.
This workshop facilitated the department for enhancing the skills in field of intervention cardiology especially in chronic total occlusion. Dr Ryuzo Hayashi admired the work done by the Department of Cardiology and appreciated the number and quality of the intervention procedures being done by the department under Dr Sushil Sharma, This coronary unit is doing interventions procedures, which are being done at the leading center in this country. He further added that the kind of procedures department is doing at Jammu is at par with any world Centre and “I am pleased to see their work and skills. All the complex coronary procedures were done successfully.
