Top HM comdr arrested

SRINAGAR, Oct 5:  Police today claimed to have busted a Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) module in Sopore area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district by arresting a top HM militant.
Deputy Inspector General of Police North Kashmir, J P Singh said that police with the assistance of RR and CRPF arrested a top Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant outfit Commander, Nisar Ahmad Dar, alias Usman and Umar son of Ghulam Mohiud-Din Dar of Saidpora in Sopore.
Singh flanked by SP Spore, Imtiyaz Hussain, CO 22 RR, Colonal Yogesh and CO 179 CRPF Surinder Kumar told media persons that Dar had earlier remained active with Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit and was apprehended by police in 2007. Police had recovered 50 hand grenades from him.
Singh said after his release in 2009, Dar joined the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen ranks and was involved in large number of terrorist activities in the areas of north Kashmir and Srinagar.
Calling Dar a “very crucial” member of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen operating in North Kashmir and Srinagar, Singh said he along with his other associates have carried out a number of attacks including killing a police constable Mohammad Shafi Lone son of Ghulam Mustafa Lone of Lathishat at Lathishat, Sopore, an IED blast, fabricated by Quyoom Najar alias Azhar, at police station Sopore which left one policeman dead and several civilians injured, besides attack on a wine shop in Hotel Heemal in Srinagar.
“Dar along with his other associates Imtiyaz Kandoo alias Fayaz of Kralteng and Tariq Ahmad Mir alia Zahid Udoora, Handwara, are involved in an IED blast at Police Station Sopore in which a police man was killed and several others were injured. Cases have been filed against him and his associated in these attacks,” the DIG said.
He added that in March this year the militant along with his associate Quyoom Najar alias Azhar attacked a police party at Iqbal market Sopore injuring critically Kishore Kumar besides killing a civilian. The militant had decamped with the weapon of the injured constable which has been recovered on his instance, he said.
The DIG also said that in June this year, Nisar Shah along with his associate Tariq Ahmad Mir alias Zahid killed one prominent businessman Kifayat Hussain Mir. Besides, the arrested militant along with his associates executed an attack on contractors and workers at Wullar Flood Conservation Project site at Adipora in August this year which after investigations from Dar revealed that the attacks were carried after directions from HM Supreme Commander Salahudin, Abdul Majeed Sofi alais Bisati and Shaheen and Amir Khan based in PoK to scuttle the efforts to conserve Wullar Lake.
Singh said that his role in attacks on policemen and security forces in Srinagar city is also being investigated.
He said the arrested militant also led police and security forces to arrest some of his associates and over ground militants of the militant module who were arrested from various areas of Sopore and Handwara.
“They include Inaytullah Ganie alias Sajid son of Mohammad Akbar Ganie Pohru Peth Handwara, Ashiq Hussain Mir son of Abdul Rashid Mir of  Guloora Handwara, Khazir Ahmad Ganie son of Abdul Ahad Ganie of  Pohru Peth Handwara and Bilal Ahmad Kaloo son of  Abdul Rehman Kaloo Takiyabal Sopore,” he said.
He also said arms and ammunition has been recovered from the arrested militant and his associates, which include 1 AK series rifle,1 AK magazine, 30 rounds, 1 Shaheen Pistol and its magazine Shaheen with 10 rounds, 2 Chinese pistols and 2 magazines with 4 rounds and 4 ammunition pouches.
