JAMMU, Feb 17: Former minister and senior National Conference leader, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra has said that terrorized by ongoing demolition drive people in J&K are suffering badly and now recall the pro-poor governance of the National Conference.
Expressing anguish over the ‘so called anti-encroachment drive’ launched by the LG’s administration, NC leader said that people are tormented by the anti-people stance of the Government in carrying out ruthless demolition.
“The manner in which the administration terrified the poor residents in various Jammu areas in recent days, reminds the people of the relentless and sustained efforts of the NC Government in safeguarding their interests,” Sadhotra said while addressing people at Bantalab in Jammu North Assembly constituency today.
Sadhotra drew parallel between the ongoing inhuman anti-encroachment drive with the land to tiller legislation brought in by Late Sheikh Mohd Abdullah and said while the former is to torment the people, the latter empowered millions of landless dwellers. This is how NC set an agenda of serving the poor, the marginalized and the down trodden even during most challenging times, he added.
The NC leader described the demolition and unethical retrieval of land under the garb of anti-encroachment drive as perpetual punishment to the poor and an agenda of the BJP to create fear, panic and despondency across the Jammu and Kashmir. Throwing all the norms and civil behaviour to winds, the UT administration does not pay any heed to the documentation of those becoming targets of their inhuman actions. He said humiliation and victimization of people through undemocratic means is not acceptable in civilized society.
The Government was perhaps trying to divert the attention of the people from the major basic issues of unemployment, rising inflation and dilapidated utility services. BJP having failed on all the fronts has adopted anti-people policies, he remarked.
Sadhotra asked the administration to stop the reckless anti-encroachment drive and giving notices to the poor people. Several district and block level party office bearers were present on the occasion.
